Coalition Letter in Support of HEREOS Act Election Provisions

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is joined by Hispanic Federation and more than 100 other organizations in urging the Senate to pass the election provisions of the HEROES Act. The legislation and provision would provide $3.6 billion and voting rights guardrails to help state and local governments prepare for the Presidential November 2020 election.

Include Defunding Proclamation 10014 Language in Appropriation Bills

Value our Families is joined by Hispanic Federation and several additional organizations in urging both Senate and House to include in all appropriations bills language defunding Proclamation 10014 of April 22, 2020 “Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Present a Risk to the United States Labor Market During the Economic Recovery Following the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Outbreak” (“Immigration Ban”) and “Proclamation Suspending Entry of Aliens Who Present a Risk to the U.S. Labor Market Following the Coronavirus Outbreak” signed June 22, 2020 (“Expanded Immigration Ban”). Appropriations bill supplemental funding bills for USCIS provisions preserving the number of allocated diversity visa and family-based visas that are not used this year due to these and other administrative actions and allow them to be used in subsequent fiscal years.

Increase COVID-19 Testing Nationwide to Help Vulnerable Communities

Hispanic Federation joined the American Diabetes Association and over 100 organization in urging congressional leaders to push for an increase of funding for COVID-19 testing, especially in our most vulnerable communities being hit the hardest by the virus. Minority groups already experience higher rates of chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and lung disease thatCOVID-19 hospitalization, and mortality data show make the virus more deadly.

Letter to Senate to Vote No on JUSTICE Act and Motion to Proceed

Hispanic Federation is proud to join the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights over 130 additional organizations in urging Senators to not only opposing the JUSTICE Act but to also vote no on the motion to proceed. The Act (S.3985) does not adequately respond to the decades of oppression African-American and Black people have experienced in the country.

Census Project Letter Requesting Supplemental Funding for the 2020 Census

Hispanic Federation joins the Census Project and additional organizations in urging the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science to include supplemental funding to help the Census Bureau cover costs related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its conduct of the 2020 Census.

Letter to Senate Appropriations Committee Regarding USCIS Funding

Hispanic Federation joined DHS Watch and Immigrant Legal Resource Center, along with several other organizations in a letter to the Senate and House Appropriations committees regarding the additional funding for USCIS. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is stating that it needs $1.2 billion in order to avoid furloughing thousands of employees because of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, USCIS's budget shortfall was in place before the pandemic.

Department of Justice Must Pursue Federal Civil Rights Investigation into the Murder of Breonna Taylor

Hispanic Federation proudly joins the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, along with more than 200 other organizations, in urging the U.S. Department of Justice to pursue a federal civil rights investigation into the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky. The Louisville Metro Police Department has a history of troubling incidents that must be looked into by the Department of Justice.

Department of Justice Must Investigate George Floyd's Death

Hispanic Federation is proud to join The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and over 200 organizations on the National Day of Mourning of George Floyd's death in demanding the U.S. Department of Justice be fully transparent in their criminal investigation into his death. The Minneapolis Police Department's long history of excessive force against Black and Brown people must end and the department and officers involved need to be held accountable.

Hispanic Federation Supports the Health Equity & Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women and Families Act of 2020

Hispanic Federation joins the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum and 255 organizations in support of the introduction of the Health Equity & Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women and Families Act of 2020 by Senator Cory Booker. The HEAL Act expands access to healthcare services, including sexual, reproductive, and maternal health services, and removing unnecessary legal and policy restrictions on health insurance coverage for immigrant communities.

Letter to Congress asking access to CARES Act education funds for Puerto Rico

Hispanic Federation was joined by over 40 organizations asking that Congress mandate that the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, Betsy DeVos, immediately comply with the CARES Act provision to respond to the education emergency created by Covid-19 and provide Puerto Rico access to the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER Fund), and to the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER Fund), created and funded by Congress on March 27, 2020.
