Al final de este mes, comenzará un programa piloto para facilitar que los solicitantes de asilo puedan encontrar y consultar con abogados con sede en los Estados Unidos a través de teleconferencias.
El programa es una asociación entre la Oficina del Senador Estatal José Rodríguez, la Federación Hispana, el Centro de Defensa de Inmigrantes de Las Américas, los Servicios Diocesanos y de Refugiados Migrantes de El Paso, la Sociedad Hebrea de Ayuda al Inmigrante, el Gobierno Municipal de Cd. Juárez, y agencias de inmigración federales y locales en Cd. Juárez.
Una conferencia de prensa anunciando el programa piloto y llamando a abogados voluntarios en Texas para participar se llevará a cabo a las 9 am del martes, 14 de enero, en la Sala de Conferencias José Reyes Estrada, primer piso, Oficina del Gobierno Municipal, Av Francisco Villa 950 Nte, Centro, 32000 Cd Juárez, Chih., México

The “Puentes Libres” (Bridges of Freedom) program will help asylum seekers find and get legal advice from U.S.-based lawyers through teleconferencing will begin in Cd. Juárez later this month, and U.S.-based attorneys are being asked to volunteer their services to the humanitarian initiative.
The project is a partnership between Texas state Sen. José Rodríguez, Hispanic Federation, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the Municipal Government of Cd. Juárez, and federal and local immigration agencies in Cd. Juarez.
It aims to address the plight of thousands of asylum seekers forced to stay in Cd. Juárez and other Mexican cities under the disingenuously named “Migrant Protection Protocols” (MPP) imposed by the Trump administration last year. Instead of protecting asylum seekers and refugees who have arrived at the border after fleeing unsafe conditions in their homelands, MPP has forced them into dangerous living conditions without the ability to get legal assistance.
