HF Celebrates 10 Years of ¡Vive tu Vida! /Get Up! Get Moving!

Good health is critically important to our communities. Healthy parents and children are more likely to be employed, succeed in school, and avoid the significant costs of chronic illnesses. That’s why Hispanic Federation has dedicated many years to promoting physical fitness in Latino communities.

That is why, for the 10th consecutive year, Hispanic Federation along with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health is hosting an exciting healthy lifestyle event called “¡Vive Tu Vida! /Get Up! Get Moving!” This annual event promotes physical activity and good nutrition as well as offers participants various health screenings and physical fitness activities.

This year Hispanic Federation will be partnering with Carnaval del Boulevard, the annual celebration of Dominican culture that takes place in Washington Heights. Event activities include a variety of health screenings such as dental, blood pressure, BMI, asthma and nutrition information. During the event we also promote physical activities including tennis and soccer sports clinics, Zumba, and a dance competition, among other activities.

“Much of the success of Hispanic Federation’s programs—educational achievement, economic development, and others—depend on people being healthy,” said HF’s Director of Community Health Engagement Bethsy Morales. “We face significant challenges from chronic but preventable diseases. We need to give people the tools to make good decisions about the foods they eat and get them moving to keep their bodies healthy. We have been lucky to partner with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health for the past ten years and we look forward to strengthening that partnership over the next decade.”

Hispanic Federation’s “¡Vive Tu Vida! /Get Up! Get Moving!” health pavilion will be located on St. Nicholas Ave, between 184th and 185th Streets, New York, NY on Saturday, June 4th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information, please contact Bethsy Morales.
