Hispanic Federation Calls on Senate to Vote in Favor of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Confirmation

WASHINGTON — Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is one step closer to becoming the first Black woman to be part of the U.S. Supreme Court after a tie vote yesterday advanced her nomination to the full U.S. Senate. Frankie Miranda, CEO and President of Hispanic Federation, released the following statement urging a swift vote in her favor.

“Judge Jackson’s confirmation process has confirmed what we already knew, that she is a uniquely well-qualified nominee for the Supreme Court of the United States. As the nation has come to know Judge Jackson, we cannot help but to be inspired. During the pressure of over 20 hours of questioning by the Senate Judiciary Committee, she answered the questions thoroughly and explained her answers expertly from a legal standpoint. She remained composed in the face of baseless attacks, especially those who attempted to misrepresent her views and sentencing record. For an organization that is proud to advocate for communities of color and has worked to ensure that Latinos and people of color thrive in our democracy, Hispanic Federation believes Judge Jackson’s confirmation will bring us one step closer to having a more fair and inclusive justice system that represents all Americans. The Supreme Court is our last line of defense against discrimination and civil abuses. Therefore, it must represent the diversity that shapes our nation.

Throughout the confirmation process, Judge Jackson has been transparent about her legal work, and her temperament, expertise, and strong performance are the characteristics needed in a Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, we urge the full Senate to take up the final vote swiftly and move to have Judge Jackson become the next associate justice of the Supreme Court.”
