Hispanic Federation Statement on Orlando Shooting

Hispanic Federation joins the nation in mourning the more than 50 individuals murdered, and more than 50 wounded, in Orlando early this morning. We extend our deepest sympathy and solidarity to the family and friends of the victims and the injured.

What transpired at the Pulse Night Club was an act of wanton savagery visited on people doing nothing so remarkable as enjoying a night of dancing with friends and loved ones. The death and injury caused by a heavily-armed and violent individual will reverberate throughout Orlando’s LGBT and Latino communities, and indeed our nation, for many years.

Our office in Orlando will work with local Latino nonprofits in the area over the next days, weeks, and months to provide critical services to the families of the victims and to the injured. Orlando’s Latino community is tight-knit and resilient. We have great confidence that in the face of such brutality and callousness, our community will come together and respond with great compassion and support for all of the victims and families affected by this appalling act of terror.
