CONNECTICUT–Hispanic Federation (HF), the nation’s premier Latino nonprofit membership organization, today launched a Request for Applications to distribute a total of $900,000 to local, community-based organizations to uplift and strengthen communities and families of color in the City of Hartford. Eligible organizations will receive up to $100,000 in funding to support their work.

Grant applications will be accepted from eligible organizations until August 25, 2023. Eligible organizations must lead programs that focus on education, recreation and arts, homelessness, family stability, reentry programs that support formerly incarcerated individuals and their families, and more. Organizations that are interested in applying can find more information here.

A virtual application workshop was held on August 10, 2023, at 11:00 am EST via zoom to provide guidance and answer any questions regarding the application process. To learn more click here: Grant application workshop.

“Empowering Latino communities, and all communities of color who have been historically marginalized, requires sustained investments and culturally and linguistically competent outreach. That’s where initiatives such as the Community Reinvestment Pilot Program come into play. By investing in local organizations who are trusted messengers in our community, we’re making sure that resources are making it into the hands of community members who need them most,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation. “We thank Connecticut’s Social Equity Council for launching this much-needed program and encourage all eligible organizations to apply to our grant.”

"We are extremely excited about our partnership with Connecticut's Social Equity Council and kick start the Community Reinvestment Pilot Program," said Yanidsi Velez, New England Regional Director at Hispanic Federation. "This visionary initiative will empower communities that have historically been marginalized. Moreover, this pilot program is a testament to our commitment to bolstering the efforts of local nonprofit organizations that are supporting formerly incarcerated individuals, young residents, seniors, and families across Connecticut. With these grants, we aim to foster transformative programs that create positive change and provide invaluable opportunities to those in need."

The grants are part of Connecticut’s Social Equity Council (SEC) and their Community Reinvestment Pilot Program, which awarded HF a $1 million to leverage the organization's grantmaking and capacity building skills to support local groups serving within the City of Hartford, specifically identified by the State as Disproportionately Impacted Areas.

To be eligible for the grant, organizations must have nonprofit tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or be under the fiscal sponsorship of a nonprofit with tax-exempt status. Applicants also must have been operating in the City of Hartford for at least three years and be in good standing with the Connecticut State Department of Consumer Protection Charities Unit. Additionally, organizations should have an operating budget of at least $150,000.

The deadline for submitting complete applications is 5:00 pm EST on August 25, 2023. An allocations panel comprised of community members with expertise in philanthropy and capacity-building will review the applications, and the awardees will be announced by October 1, 2023.
