Hispanic Federation Statement on Puerto Rican Senate’s Move to Revoke Transgender Rights

April 4, 2017 (New York, NY) – Hispanic Federation has issued the following statement in response to the Puerto Rican Senate’s move to revoke transgender rights.

“It is unconscionable that the Puerto Rico Senate President would roll back transgender protections for Senate employees regarding the use of public bathrooms. This violates anti-discrimination laws and sends a horrific message to patriotic, hardworking public servants who just want to be respected and valued. Hispanic Federation stands with and thanks New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for consistently speaking out against bigotry and homophobia in New York, Puerto Rico or wherever injustice arises.”
