Since 2016, the shift in the Puerto Rican population in Florida has grown exponentially due to the devastation Hurricane Maria left, creating a climate refugee crisis for Puerto Ricans. With more than 1.1 million Floridians self-identifying as Puerto Rican, the demographic and political landscape has shifted, making Puerto Ricans the second largest Hispanic registered voting bloc in the Sunshine State.

In this session, we join a conversation with Ricardo Negron Almodovar, the Legal Services Coordinator of LatinoJustice PRLDEF, for an update on voter rights. Kate Vicsik and Jackie Colón also discuss the need for transparency in the redistricting process.
