National Voter Registration Campaign for Puerto Rico

The National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Hispanic Federation and a coalition of Puerto Rican organizations from across the country are partnering to announce an unprecedented call to action for an historic National Voter Registration Campaign for Puerto Rico, which will be launched in June to coincide with the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City and the many Puerto Rican parades and festivals taking place across the country this summer.

We are asking community, labor, faith, civil rights and social service institutions from coast to coast – Puerto Rican, Latino and allies – to organize local voter registration drives and events over the summer to raise their voice in support of Puerto Rico. Registering tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans and other concerned Americans across the nation will send a clear message to the President, Congress and all candidates that they need to act now to assist and help lift up the Commonwealth and its 3.5 million U.S. citizens.

During the iconic National Puerto Rican Day Parade (June 12), trained volunteers will ask the hundreds of thousands of parade-goers to register to vote while enjoying the festivities. In addition, we are encouraging island-based partner organizations and media outlets to spread the word and inspire residents of the Commonwealth to call their stateside family members to urge them to register to vote on June 12th.

Hispanic Federation will contact each interested organization to plug them into existing regional efforts or work with their team to brainstorm an event. Trainings will be provided in June for all organizations on voter registration best practices and other key information about the campaign.
