HF Takes Conservation To Heart

For the third year in a row, we were thrilled to participate in and support Latino Conservation Week, an initiative of Hispanic Access Foundation, a fellow member of the Latino Conservation Alliance (LCA). With trips to Governors Island and Brownstone Park, Hispanic Federation was proud to put into action this year’s theme: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra.

Too often, we don’t take advantage of the national treasures in our backyards. That wasn’t the case last week! As some of the over one hundred activities planned for Latino Conservation Week, Hispanic Federation staff in New York and Connecticut unplugged their computers for an afternoon to explore some of our nation's parks. From zip-lining in Connecticut to exploring the Castle Williams on Governors Island, we joined Latinos across the nation in spreading the message that this nation’s public lands and green spaces are ours to enjoy, and we should protect them.

“In addition to having a tremendous amount of fun, this was a great opportunity to put into action what we have been promoting through our advocacy work for years,” said HF's Director of National Advocacy Laura Esquivel. “America is home to wondrous green spaces that Latinos should not only visit but fight to protect. Latino Conservation Week is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness, promote our national parks, and enjoy the outdoors!”
