Hispanic Federation, Partners to Provide One-Time $600 Payments to 62,900 Farmworkers, Meatpacking Workers Through New USDA Relief Grant

Hispanic Federation, the nation’s leading network of Latino community-based organizations, will provide one-time direct relief payments of $600 to 62,900 qualifying farmworkers and meatpacking workers, thanks to a two-year, $44.3 million grant administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in Texas v. United States affirms that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is unlawful, sending the case back to the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas for further review in light of the Biden administration’s new DACA rule.

Hispanic Federation Celebrates Critical Step to Lower Overtime Threshold for New York Farmworkers

Hispanic Federation applauds Commissioner Roberta Reardon and Governor Hochul’s landmark decision to accept the Farm Laborers Wage Board recommendation to lower the overtime threshold to 40 hours per week over the course of 10 years. Although a decade to get to 40 hours for overtime is a long road ahead, the reduction of four hours every two years until 2032 will lead to significant change in the lives of our farmworkers and their families in New York State.

Hispanic Federation Welcomes Long Needed Action on Gun Reform

For the first time in over 25 years, Congress passed bipartisan legislation that addresses access to guns, crisis intervention, and school safety in our country. Though it falls short in many areas, this bill provides hope that Congress will begin taking responsibility for the fact that the U.S. is an extreme outlier among developed countries when it comes to gun laws and gun-related violence and death. Hispanic Federation thanks President Biden for signing this bipartisan legislation into law.

Today, in a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade, effectively ending nearly 50 years of the constitutional right to abortion. Hispanic Federation condemns this decision and once again calls on Congress to immediately pass federal protections for abortion rights.
